"I was pretty lucky," Zeigler said. "He jabbed me pretty good."

Jerry Lee Douglas, 37, was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery and third-degree assault, according to police.

No one else was injured during the robbery, reported just after 12:30 p.m., though Douglas attempted to stab another witness during his flight, police spokeswoman Anita Shell said.

Douglas walked into the Luck Grocery and Deli near Fourth Avenue and C Street, pulled his knife and demanded cash, Shell said. He made off with the contents of the register, but a group of witnesses began chasing him as he ran from the scene, she said.

Up to six people participated in the chase, finally tackling Douglas and holding him near Fifth Avenue and B Street - behind Allure Day Spa - until police arrived.

Initial reports that the robber had a gun proved to be unfounded, Shell said.
