Swingley remains unbeaten

Three-time defending Iditarod musher Doug Swingley won his fourth straight stage and padded his overall lead Thursday in the AttaBoy 300/Oregon World Cup sled dog race in Oregon.

Swingley, of Lincoln, Mont., covered the 47.3-mile course near Prineville in 3 hours, 50 minutes and 55 seconds, slightly more than a minute faster than Gwen Holdmann of Fairbanks. Swingley padded his overall lead to more than 40 minutes over Frank Teasley of Jackson Hole, Wyo., with three stages remaining.

Kusko 300 ready to roll

The Kuskokwim 300 sled dog race is set to begin Jan. 18-20 in Bethel, with an all-star field already registered to compete.

The list is headed by Jeff King, the five-time winner and defending champion, followed by Rick Swenson, DeeDee Jonrowe, Ramy Brooks, Charlie Boulding and Martin Buser. A group of 17 mushers had registered by Thursday.

The race start at noon on Jan. 18 with the winner expected to finish on Sunday. The race runs from Bethel to Aniak to Bethel.
