(Jan. 27, 2001) The National Bank of Alaska has extended its sponsorship of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

The Wells Fargo company has agreed to a new, five-year sponsorship deal worth more than $1 million.

The bank's contribution for this year's Iditarod will be more than $200,000.

The bank also is sponsoring the Iditarod Teacher on the Trail program. The program was created three years ago by the trail committee.

This year's Teacher on the Trail will by Diane Nye of Running Creek Elementary School in Elizabeth, Colorado. She will be traveling along the trail, equipped with a laptop computer and a digital camera. She will transmit reports, suggest classroom activities, and download photographs to the Iditarod Trail Committee website.

The 2001 Iditarod starts from downtown Anchorage on March 3rd.
