What was Kott accused of?
Being part of a conspiracy, with Veco Corp. officials and other lawmakers, to push passage of an industry-friendly oil profits tax in 2006. Among the benefits prosecutors say he received: $1,000 cash, a check for $7,993, the promise of a job as lobbyist and an illegal political poll.
Whats the sentence?
Sentencing will be Dec. 7. Prosecutors estimate Kott faces 51 to 63 months in prison and up to 78 months if the judge concludes Kott testified untruthfully to the point of obstructing justice.
Whats next? Sentencing and other trials are upcoming: Ex-Rep. Tom Anderson faces sentencing Oct. 15. He was found guilty in July of bribery, conspiracy and other counts. Former Rep. Vic Kohring faces trial on Oct. 22 on bribery, conspiracy and extortion charges. Former Rep. Bruce Weyhrauch awaits trial. He was initially scheduled to stand trial with Kott. The cases were split shortly before Kotts trial began.
