What was Kott accused of?

• Being part of a conspiracy, with Veco Corp. officials and other lawmakers, to push passage of an industry-friendly oil profits tax in 2006. Among the benefits prosecutors say he received: $1,000 cash, a check for $7,993, the promise of a job as lobbyist and an illegal political poll.

What’s the sentence?

Sentencing will be Dec. 7. Prosecutors estimate Kott faces 51 to 63 months in prison — and up to 78 months if the judge concludes Kott testified untruthfully to the point of obstructing justice.

What’s next? Sentencing and other trials are upcoming: • Ex-Rep. Tom Anderson faces sentencing Oct. 15. He was found guilty in July of bribery, conspiracy and other counts. • Former Rep. Vic Kohring faces trial on Oct. 22 on bribery, conspiracy and extortion charges. • Former Rep. Bruce Weyhrauch awaits trial. He was initially scheduled to stand trial with Kott. The cases were split shortly before Kott’s trial began.
