Madeline Knowlton took pictures of a sow and three cubs as they explored her house Thursday and Saturday. Saturday morning they tried to get in through a door that they'd gotten in two days before. The sow did serious damage to the door before APD officers shot her and two of the cubs.
Their status as an endangered species is a hot political item, but the images of these rare arctic animals are a breathtaking sight.
Brown Bears Visit Turnagain Mud Flats
Dozens of people were treated to the sight of two brown bears rooting around in the mud flats of Turnagain Arm just north of Bird Point Monday morning June 22, 2009. There have been many bear sightings in recent days along the bike trail in the area and the campground at Bird. Chugach State Park officials closed part of a popular bike trail in the area earlier last week due to the bears activities.
