Playing outdoors in subzero temperatures, Michael Hanson and Dylan Danielowski each scored Saturday as Palmer tied host Glennallen in the Ice Cube Classic.
Palmer and Glennallen were each 2-0 in the tournament entering Saturday's game, but Palmer was awarded the title because it scored more goals during the tournament.The Moose opened with a 5-0 win against Delta Junction on Thursday and blanked Hutchison 7-0 on Friday.Palmer coach Brad Hanson said the Moose generally outplayed Glennallen, but ran into a strong goalie.Players also weren't used to skating in the frigid conditions."Wearing an extra pair of gloves under your hockey gloves, all bundled up, you don't have quite the same feel for the puck," Hanson said. Hanson said the outdoor ice was in great shape and hot-mopped between periods. He said it was a great experience for his players to see how many of Alaska's small-schools hockey programs play. Temperatures ranged from about 10 below Thursday to zero on Saturday."We have it pretty easy," he said.Bartlett 5, Colony 2John Bowen scored twice and Devin Rawls made 22 saves as Bartlett won a penalty-filled nonconference game Saturday at Brett Memorial Arena.Blake Huppert finished with a goal and an assist for Colony, upping his season points total to 62, almost three per game.Ryan Weeks also scored for Colony (10-11).On Friday, Huppert finished with five points -- three goals and two assists -- as the Knights held off Houston 7-6 in a nonconference game.Colony led 7-3, but Houston scored three times in the final two minutes to close the gap. Dillon Styers and Rye Humphreys each scored twice for Houston.All three of Bartlett's wins this season have come against Colony. -- Anchorage Daily News
