Heavy snow pounded Valdez and Cordova on January 6, 2012, after the town received 19.2 inches Thursday from the Prince William Sound blizzard, making for a season total of more than 20 feet. Meanwhile, Nome is having its worst cold spell since 1989.

The AMMC Racing X-treme Motor Madness Expo got underway Friday afternoon, April 29, at Alyeska Resort with the hill climb event.
The Alyeska Motor Madness event kicked off Friday, April 30, 2010, with a hill climb competition. The event continues through the weekend with snowcross racing, a freestyle show and more at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.
The Iron Dog started in 1984 with a 1000-mile race from Big Lake to Nome. On its 10th anniversary in 1994, officials added another 1,000 miles, from Nome to Fairbanks. This year's field has 29 teams, two drivers to a team.
