Class 1A Girls: Togiak, Akiachak, White Mountain and Kiana move into semis

Togiak's Keilyn Carlos turned in the first big performance of March Madness Alaska, scoring 24 points to lead the Huskies past Huslia 58-45 Tuesday morning in the first game of the Class 1A girls tournament at Sullivan Arena.

Carlos was 11 of 16 from the field. She also dished out five assists. Dahlia Wassillie added 18 points for Togiak, which moved into the semifinals.

Samantha Sam led the Huslers with 16 points in defeat.

Akiachak 35, Alakanuk 31

Tessi Charles scored 10 points and Megan Schneider grabbed 10 rebounds as Akiachak held off a fourth-quarter charge from Alakanuk.

The low-scoring affair was decided in the first quarter when the Huskies outscored Alakanuk 11-4, building a lead the Braves could not overcome.

Franki Phillip had nine points to lead Alakanuk.

White Mountain 61, Kwesthluk 45

Katya Wassillie scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds as the Wolves overcame some sloppy play early to advance to the semifinals.

Michelle Simon had 12 points for White Mountain, all on 3-pointers.

Mary Guy led Kewthluk with 16 points. The Kings lost starting center Katya McDalton to a hand or wrist injury early in the second quarter and were unable to recover after that.

Kiana 39, Alak 36

The Kiana Lynx moved into the semifinals behind 11 points each from Marisa Atoruk and Lexy Staheli.

Kiana trailed 26-19 entering the final quarter, but outscored the Huskies 20-10 in the final eight minutes to steal away a victory.

Stephanie Aguvluk led Alak and all scorers with 13 points.
