Mark Thursdays for free performances in the park Anchorage doesn't really have summer stock to speak of. But the closest thing to it -- Theater Thursdays -- just happens to be free.On several Thursdays through August, TBA Theatre takes over Peratrovich Park and delivers an hour of family-friendly improv, audience interaction comedy and the occasional fire juggler or balloon-animal maker. Watch demonstrations of iron casting, blacksmithing and pottery making, including the dramatic raku clay firing technique. We're talking 1,800 degrees and combustible materials here, people. In addition, the Valley Arts Alliance has pulled in some live musicians and curated an art show including paintings, photos and prints on the theme "Barn and Beyond."Events run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry, 3800 W. Museum Drive, Wasilla. Tickets are $5, free for children 12 and under. But if you're looking for a handmade piece of art to commemorate our 50th anniversary as a state, it's worth your time to stop by Virtu Gallery.There, Tami Jo Phelps's exhibit "Postcards from Aka" playfully pays tribute to our fair state with distinctive, hand-colored historical photographs and shadow boxes.
