NIKISKI - Two passengers killed in a fiery plane crash Saturday won't be identified by state troopers until the state medical examiner can confirm their identities, a trooper spokeswoman said Sunday. The late-morning crash of a float plane on the west side of Cook Inlet across from Nikiski killed three people, including 60-year-old pilot Thomas Iversen of Nikiski.

Trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said the plane was engulfed in flames after it crashed near the abandoned Native village of Kustatan, near Tyonek.

"We have tentatives IDs," Peters said, but the names probabably won't be released until they are confirmed by the medical examiner, she added.

A report of the crash came just after 11 a.m. Saturday. Everyone onboard died, troopers said.

The cause of the crash was not available.

"I don't know what the cause is. I've heard a couple different theories, but it's still under investigation," Peters said.
