Seward Highway collision claims another life

A second person has died following a head-on collision on the Seward Highway earlier this week.

Anchorage resident Riley McVitty, 23, died today at Providence Alaska Medical Center, spokeswoman Kira Protasel said.

McVitty, a passenger in a 2004 Acura TL, was medevacked to the hospital following its collision with a truck near Mile 99 at about 8:15 p.m. Monday. The driver of the car, Danielle Jennett, 23, remains in critical but stable condition at Alaska Native Medical Center.

McVitty and Jennett, travelling north, were pinned in the car after the collision with a southbound 1987 Ford F-150 and had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life.

The truck's driver, Seward resident Jeffrey McClure, 42, died on the scene.
