The Beach Lake Trail system near Chugiak is closed this afternoon because of a brown bear feeding on a moose carcass in the area, according to Anchorage police.
The bear was seen not far from Chugiak High School by a police officer on duty there, spokeswoman Anita Shell said.
Police have shut down the trail for fear the bear could get aggressive if approached, she said. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game was working this afternoon to clear out the carcass and the bear, she said.
