The Nordic Skiing Association offers kids ages 6 to 14 a chance to learn to ski, an activity that will serve them well all their lives. Anchorage Junior Nordic meets at Kincaid, Hillside or Russian Jack Springs parks two days a week, with morning and evening classes. You can start signing up Oct. 1 at www.juniornordic.org.
For those that live in Eagle River and frequent the Beach Lake ski trails, the Eagle River Nordic Ski Club offers a Junior Nordic of its own. ERJN offers lessons for kids 4 to 14 taught by local high school student volunteers, parents and coaches. Classes are twice a week in the evening, and students are split up according to age and ability. You can visit the Web site and sign up at www.ernsc.org/junior_nordic.html.
Whether a regular participant of Besh Cup races or a beginner looking for fun instruction, kids and parents can enjoy themselves touring the trails and appreciating a sport beneficial for a lifetime.
