Kodiak's Dunbar does it again in Region III cross country

Dunbar, the reigning Class 4A state champ, clocked 15 minutes, 32.4 seconds over five kilometers (3.1 miles) at Skyview High. That was about 30 seconds faster than his winning time in last year's race, held on flatter trail at Colony High.

Teammate Sam Salus also cracked 16 minutes to finish second and Dylan Anthony was third for a Kodiak sweep and the team title. Colony High finished a distant second.

In the 4A girls race, Skyview's Ivy O'Guinn won in 19:04.4 on her home trails. Colony, however, used its depth to win the team title, placing five runners in the top 15.

A similar scenario played out in the Class 1-2-3A girls race. Seward's Allison Barnwell won in 19:42, but Grace Christian won the team title with its overwhelming depth -- all seven runners placed in the top 10. The Grace Christian boys repeated as champs, led by Kirk Jacob's win in 16:15.9.
