Retailing giant Target plans to open stores in Anchorage and Wasilla on Wednesday.
Company spokeswoman Brie Heath said the stores' official opening is scheduled for Sunday, but they will have what she called a "quiet opening" on Wednesday, with the stores fully staffed and stocked. The stores will be open 8 a.m to 10 p.m., which are Target's hours every day but Sundays, when they are open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., she said. The Anchorage store is in the new Tikahtnu Commons mall at 1200 N. Muldoon Road -- the intersection of the Glenn Highway and Muldoon. It is the first store to open in the mall. The Wasilla store is at the old Cottonwood Creek mall site at 1801 E. Parks Highway. Minneapolis-based Target has 1,648 stores nationwide, with 45 more scheduled to officially open Sunday.
