The price of North Slope oil sold on West Coast open markets closed Wednesday at $49.12 a barrel, down $0.77 for the day.

U.S. natural gas, at the Lower 48's Henry Hub, was $6.76 per million BTU, up $0.01.

Gold closed at $735.90 per ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange, up $3.30.
