SLICK ROADS: Police respond to 27 accidents in Anchorage.

More than a hundred vehicles slid off roads Sunday, as Anchorage drivers coped with a weekend storm that left about a foot of fresh snow at the highest elevations.

By early evening police had responded to 27 accidents, including three that resulted in injuries, the Anchorage Police Department said.

Officers also assisted 103 "vehicles in distress" -- drivers sliding into ditches and other places they couldn't get out of.

"The roads have been keeping us busy," an APD spokeswoman said. "There's been a lot of very fast, very poor driving out there."

The National Weather Service reported that 10 inches of snow fell on the Upper Hillside during the two-day storm.

The airport weather station in West Anchorage received 7.6 inches of new snow, which provided a 12-inch snowpack for skiers at Kincaid Park.

Snow tapered off in the afternoon, though blowing snow and gusty winds were reported on the Seward Highway along Turnagain Arm.

Skies were expected to clear after midnight, with partly sunny weather forecast for today.
