The price of North Slope oil sold on West Coast open markets closed Monday at $44.78 a barrel, down $5.15 for the day.

U.S. natural gas, at the Lower 48's Henry Hub, was $6.49 per million BTU, unchanged.

Gold closed at $774.60 per ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange, down $41.60.
