Anchorage Police are investigating an early morning, nonfatal shooting on New Year's Day that began with a lovers' spat at a Spenard home.

At about 5:30 a.m., after a night of partying, a 28-year-old man and his girlfriend tussled over a gun and it went off. The bullet grazed the man in the back, according to Anchorage Police.

The victim or his girlfriend pulled the trigger -- it's not yet clear which one -- and it may have been accidental, police said.

The couple was apparently arguing over "another woman," said police spokeswoman Anita Shell.

The man was treated and released from an Anchorage hospital, and as of Thursday evening, neither had been charged with a crime, she said.

Police are seeking a warrant to search for evidence at the home at 1406 West 47th Ave., she said.
