Lucy and David Locklear

Lucy and David Locklear of Palmer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 20.

They met in Laredo, Texas. Three months later, David and Lucy were married in Laredo, and they honeymooned in Monterey, Mexico.

David retired from the Air Force in 1976 and from AVAC in 1988. Lucy worked as a registered nurse at Providence Alaska Medical Center and retired in 1988.

They own a motor home and have traveled to every state. They have been up and down the Alaska Highway more than 50 times. The Locklears live in Palmer but allow little grass to grow under their feet. When the roads are clear, they are ready to go.

David and Lucy have six children: Ann, Suzy, David Jr., Debbie, Dwaine and Darel; 10 grandchildren, Travis, Jamie, Shannon, Skyler, Shelby, Jermany, Natiley, Delaney, Davey and Serena; and four great-grandchildren.

JUNE 21, 2008

Brandy and Matthew Atkins

Brandy Moates and Matthew Atkins of Anchorage were married June 21 (longest day of the year) at Fireweed Station Inn in Talkeetna, where a reception followed.

Stewart Merrill officiated. Christel Westmorland (sister of the bride) was matron of honor. Colby Moates (sister of the bride) was maid of honor, and Callie Wells was bridesmaid. Summer Moates-Hille (niece of the bride) was flower girl, and Henry Gayman (nephew of the bridegroom) was ring bearer. Ted Baran was best man, and groomsmen were Jim Potts and Monty Atkins.

The ceremony was outside; a train went by, so the proceedings were delayed for a moment so everyone could wave to passengers. The couple will honeymoon in Hawaii.

Brandy is the daughter of Carol (Murley) Moates and Billy Don Moates of Tennessee. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1997 and attended Austin Peay State University, where she received a bachelor's degree in biology in 2002. Brandy also received a master's degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2005 and plans to receive a doctorate in nursing from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center this spring. Brandy is a nurse practitioner at Alaska Spine Institute in Anchorage.

Matt is the son of Monty and Rhonda (Balch) Atkins of Wasilla. He graduated from Wasilla High School in 1989 and attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. Matt is the sales and service manager for Engineered Fire & Safety in Anchorage.

Emily Hampson and Aaron Hall

Emily Hampson and Aaron Hall will marry May 15 in Austin, Texas.

Emily is the daughter of Dr. Robert and Becky Hampson of Dallas. She graduated from Richardson High School and the University of Texas. Emily lives in Austin, where she works at The Menagerie gifts and accessories store. She is pursuing her teaching credentials at the University of Texas.

Aaron is the son of Dr. John and Jane Hall of Anchorage. He graduated from Bartlett High School and Occidental College. Aaron lives in Austin and works at PeopleAdmin as a systems analyst.

NOV. 1, 2008 Shawna and Jon Arend

Shawna Kelly and Jon Arend of Chugiak were married Nov. 1 at Smith Family Gardens in Wailua on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

Kahu Chucky Chock officiated. Matrons of honor were Jennifer Farrar of Abilene, Texas, and Angie Lindberg of Chugiak. Matt Jones of Eagle River was best man; he set up the couple on a blind date. Joe Lindberg of Chugiak was groomsman.

Shawna's mother and stepfather are Schelle and Gary Allison of Peeples Valley, Ariz. Her father and stepmother are Daniel and Carol Nelson of Kodiak. Jon is the son of Larry and Liz Arend of Anchorage.

Twenty-nine family members and friends attended from Alaska, Arizona and Texas.
