Recent major fires in Anchorage

THURSDAY, Jan. 1: A chimney fire inflicted $60,000 in damage to a home at 651 Clipper Ship Court.

FRIDAY: An empty building at 5623 Dalzell Circle was destroyed when a suspicious fire tore through it. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

SATURDAY: Smoke spewing from the eaves of a home at 2094 Esquire Drive signaled a fire that caused $100,000 in damage to the home.

MONDAY: A blaze caused $150,000 in damage to a Fairview bungalow at 1326 Karluk St. Portable space heaters are the likely cause.

MONDAY: Ashes put into a plastic bag and left against the side of the house reignited and caused $250,000 in damage to a home at 2306 Lord Baranof Drive.

TUESDAY: A fire broke out at a Jewel Lake fourplex at 8830 Cordell Circle, causing about $75,000 in damage. An initial investigation indicated the fire began in the chimney chase and worked its way up the wall into the attic.

WEDNESDAY: A spark created by someone working on a vehicle in a garage caused significant damage to the garage and home at 1802 Bellevue Loop. Damage was still being assessed.
