Jay Hakkinen of Kasilof and Jeremy Teela of Anchorage helped the U.S. Biathlon relay team to its best finish of the year on Thursday, 11th place in a World Cup biathlon race in Oberhof, Germany.
Hakkinen skied the second leg and Teela was the anchor for the U.S. team that finished 3:23.9 behind the Austrians, who had no penalities on their way to victory. Russia was second, 8.7 seconds back. Germany was third.
The Americans finished 15th and 14th in the two previous World Cup relays. One reason for the improvement was that the Americans had only one penalty, by Hakkinen in the prone stage.
