Search halted after snowboarder calls in

An aerial search for a teenage snowboarder reportedly wearing only a jacket and pajama pants while traversing Flattop Mountain was curtailed shortly before launch when the boy reported he had snowboarded down and was fine, Alaska State Troopers said Monday. Troopers received a report that Mark Hannon, 17, was missing at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday, when three of his fellow snowboarders made it to their vehicle and couldn't find him.

The Anchorage Fire Department requested troopers' assistance, and troopers prepared to launch their helicopter in search of the boy, missing for about two hours.

But before the chopper hit the sky, Hannon called troopers to say he was fine, having snowboarded to the road and caught a ride from a passer-by, troopers said.
