DETAILS: Meet live captive owls, take a close-up look at owl pellets and other owl artifacts and take a guided walk to try to find owls by sound. Registration required.

Hiking/BACKPACKING

Slow-paced Eagle River hike

WHEN: 1 p.m. today

WHERE: Eagle River Nature Center

DETAILS: Liza Sanden will lead a slow-paced hike for all ages (sleds OK) that covers the lower Albert Loop and returns to the education yurt where hikers can warm up and roast marshmallows. Limited number; please register by phone.

Learn about owl pellets

WHERE: Eagle River Nature Center

DETAILS: Come learn about the gory, the gross and the cool: how owls hunt, kill, eat, vomit and other cool things. We'll get to dissect a sterile owl pellet and reassemble the skeleton of the rodent that the owl had for dinner. Limited to 16 children, ages 7 and up, who register by phone.
