Police say the shooting took place at a home in the 12200 block of Rainbow Avenue at about 5:20 p.m., when a 16-year-old boy who lived there was handling a pistol.

The shooter, not identified because of his age, discharged the firearm and struck Brenton Buckmaster. He was taken to a local hospital with a single gunshot wound and later died.

Specific details on the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available, although police described the shooting as appearing "unintentional."

A group of teens was at the home at the time, as was a parent, police said.

Police said it appeared no drugs or alcohol were involved. The major crime scene unit planned to be on scene into the night, police said.
