Richardson Highway reopened after snow slides

Published: March 6, 2009

FAIRBANKS - State transportation officials have reopened a nearly 20-mile stretch of the Richardson Highway south of Delta Junction after it was closed because of snow slides.

The state closed the highway Friday morning from Mile 193 to 211 because of snow slides and small avalanches. The closure was from near Trims to approximately eight miles north of Paxson Lodge.

Department of Transportation spokeswoman Meadow Bailey says snow slides from hills next to the road left the highway covered with snow.

Meadow says a truck that tried to pass through early this morning got stuck. Crews worked to clear the snow from both sides of the closure.
