Fatally injured was Brenton Buckmaster, a student at Service High School.

The shooting may have been an accident, police said. The name of the 16-year-old male who was handling the firearm when it went off was not released.

Police responded shortly after 5 p.m. to a report of a shooting at a residence on the 12200 block of Rainbow Avenue. Several other juveniles and a parent were in the home at the time, police said.

The 16-year-old was "manipulating" a handgun when it discharged, police said.

Buckmaster was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives with the APD Homicide Unit are continuing their investigation.
