When UAA and Seattle Pacific meet tonight for the West Region women's basketball championship, both teams will have revenge in mind.
UAA wants to make up for a loss to Seattle Pacific a month ago that knocked the Seawolves from the top of the national rankings, ended their 22-game winning streak and cost them the opportunity to host the tournament, which instead was awarded to the Falcons.
Seattle Pacific wants to make up for a loss to UAA a year ago in the region championship. That time, the Falcons were the favored team riding a long winning streak -- 29 games -- but the Seawolves beat them 50-44 at SPU's Royal Brougham Pavilion to advance to the tournament's Elite Eight.
A trip to the Elite Eight is again at stake when the teams tangle tonight at 6. The winner goes to San Antonio next week, along with the winners of seven other regional tournaments.
UAA is 29-3 and ranked second in the nation. Seattle Pacific is 23-4 and ranked fifth in the nation. The teams split their two games during the Great Northwest Athletic Conference season, with UAA winning 53-49 in Anchorage and Seattle Pacific prevailing 54-42 in Seattle.
