The zoo event will feature Hal, a bald eagle that survived the spill; spill artifacts including a piece of Bligh Reef; samples of Exxon Valdez oil; exhibits on seals, otters and sea ducks; and a touch tank of intertidal sea creatures.
Jeep Rice, a scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, will give lectures at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on lingering oil and effects on animals. Killer whale researcher Craig Matkin will talk at noon and 2 p.m.
A variety of films also will be shown including "Elfin," a 12-minute film about the rehabilitation of an abandoned sea otter pup.
Overall, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alaska Zoo's Gateway hall. Admission is free.
Sponsors include the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council, the Alaska SeaLife Center and the zoo.
