Legislative raises for next year went into effect Saturday, boosting the salaries from $24,000 to $50,400. Saturday was the deadline for lawmakers to introduce bills to reject the raises.
Under the new pay regulations, lawmakers will no longer receive optional pay for working when the Legislature is not in session.
The raises were recommended by the State Officers Compensation Commission.
The commission also had proposed raising the governor’s salary from $125,000 to $150,000 but dropped the idea after Gov. Palin said she would not accept a salary increase.
