Cruise line will send ship to Anchorage next year

Anchorage will be a scheduled stop next year for the Holland America Line cruise ship Amsterdam, the company said Tuesday. The stop in the state's biggest city comes as Holland America will offer passengers a 14-day round-trip excursion from Seattle on this ship.

The Amsterdam will stop in Anchorage, Homer and Kodiak -- three new ports for cruise passengers, Holland America said.

The ship will have 10 round-trip sailings in the summer of 2010. By using the Amsterdam this way, Holland America said it will drop 20 trips between Vancouver, British Columbia, and Seward next year. The company estimates it will carry 11,000 fewer passengers to Alaska next year due to this change.
