The RoadRunners, already eliminated from the playoffs and folding at season’s end, fell 6-2 to the Idaho Steelheads on Wednesday night, which pulled the Steelheads within one point of the Aces. The RoadRunners surrendered 56 shots on goal and six power-play strikes, and they’ve got two more games in Idaho.
The Aces, who close the regular season with games Friday and Saturday at Utah, are operating under the assumption that Idaho will beat Phoenix both Friday and Saturday. Thus, the Aces figure, they must earn the three points necessary to win the West and earn home-ice advantage through the first three rounds of the Kelly Cup playoffs.
Team Record Points Games Remaining
Alaska Aces 44-23-3 91 2 (At Utah, Fri.-Sat.)
Idaho Steelheads 43-23-4 90 2 (Host Phoenix, Fri-Sat.)
