House members voted 22-14 today, and the bill now goes to the Senate, where a similar measure failed to get a hearing last session.

The measure has been contentious. Supporters say parents should be involved in a child's medical decisions.

Opponents, however, contend it's unduly restrictive, especially for girls from abusive families.

The state Supreme Court found an earlier parental consent law unconstitutional but said it could view differently a law that requires only parental notification, not consent.
