The only person inside the Lake Otis Parkway mobile home when the fire erupted at about 8:30 p.m. was sleeping and woke up due to the heavy smoke, firefighters said. The occupant escaped with minor burns and smoke inhalation; also, a neighbor had to be treated for smoke inhalation, firefighters said.

Both residents, plus a firefighter who suffered a hand injury, were treated and released from a local hospital, and animal control officers retrieved the dead dog, firefighters said.

The fire, in the Manoog's Isle Trailer Park, began in the kitchen and was likely the result of unattended cooking. It was the second Anchorage fire in two days attributed to unattended cooking, firefighters said.

It's also at least the third trailer fire in the past two years at Manoog's Isle, on the 5600 block of Lake Otis. Monday night's blaze destroyed the home, valued at $80,000; the Red Cross is assisting the victims, firefighters said.
