Donald Lee, 22, of Wasilla got into an argument with several patrons at Tailgaters Sports Bar & Grill along the Parks Highway, police said. Lee left but returned with a pistol and shot at two people who took cover behind a van in the bar's parking lot, according to police and bar staff. He then fled.
Bar manager Shannon Klein said Tuesday afternoon that Tailgaters had kicked out Lee an hour before the shooting because he had harassed a female customer. The men he shot at came to the woman's defense, she said.
Officers responding to the bar spotted Lee's vehicle on the Parks but he didn't pull over until he got to Fairview Loop Road, police said.
The officers arrested Lee on charges of attempted murder, along with assault, eluding and criminal mischief. He remained jailed Tuesday at Mat-Su Pretrial Facility in lieu of $250,000 bail and court-approved third party custodian.
Lee's arrest history includes minor offenses such as speeding and minor consuming alcohol, according to an online database of state court records.
The shooting was Tailgaters' first in the 11 years Klein has worked there.
"It's never happened before," she said. "Pray to God it never happens again."
