Joseph Butler suffered severe injuries, the troopers said.

Butler and his climbing partner, 24-year-old Gregory Nappi, were climbing an ice waterfall at about 11 a.m. Thursday when Butler fell.

Nappi pulled Butler 50 yards on a sled to the base of the glacier. He then set up a tent, wrapped Butler in two sleeping bags and began skiing at about 6 p.m. to get help.

After 13 miles, Butler arrived at the Eklutna Ranger Station at about 5 this morning.

Troopers launched a helicopter through 50 mph winds to get to Butler and found him at 8 a.m.

Butler was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition, troopers say.
