DOWN -- Brent Johnston: Gov's fisheries board nominee goes the way of WAR. That's how it goes in the fish wars. EVEN -- Gov. Sarah: She's a hit in Indiana, takes her lumps in Alaska. Lawmakers riled. Can the Belle be thinking that four-letter word -- veto? DOWN -- Anchorage bears: Time to wake up, Yogi, but keep that head on a swivel, cuz the city is getting a bear sheriff. EVEN -- Pete Kott, Vic Kohring: Still guests at the federal Graybar, their appeals were heard in Seattle. Don't pack your bags yet, boys. DOWN -- Anchorage taxpayers: Budget cuts not enough; property owners may pay 5 percent more. Hey, where's the cap? Prop 9? Revenue sharing? Stimulus, anyone? UP -- Don Young's lawyers: Congressman for all of Alaska and especially those who voted for him continues to raise money to pay counsel. Soon he'll have his own firm. UP -- Old soldiers: State steps in to make up pay lost by 26 vets of World War II's Alaska Territorial Guard. While Uncle Sam dithers, state keeps his promise. UP -- Ken Salazar: Interior chief scores points with Alaska visit, stands out with that white hat. Could have used a little gold and jade accessorizing, though. UP -- Southcentral Alaskans: Look around ... see a rumor of spring? Gritty, ugly and dusty. Gulls are back. Studded tires sound old. Ssshhhh ... don't jinx it.
