Stephanie Brown says methamphetamine is still a drug of choice.
She spoke Saturday in Fairbanks on the drug and its effects.
A dozen meth labs were seized in Alaska last year and 11 the year before.
That's far fewer than five years ago but the Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement says meth is easily imported from Mexico and "superlabs" there.
Brown says 58 percent of law enforcement officers report meth is the top drug problem faced by their agencies.
Methamphetamine is a stimulant made from common cold medicines and household ingredients such as battery acid.
