Conoco Phillips reveals NPR-A drilling results

Conoco Phillips announced test results from two wells drilled in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska in recent winters: Pioneer No. 1 and the Rendezvous No. 2, according to Petroleum News. "Test production rates for these wells ranged from about 500 barrels of oil per day to as high as 1,300 barrels of oil per day of high API gravity oil" and gas production rates "averaged about 1.5 million cubic feet per day for each well," the company said.

Conoco drilled Pioneer No. 1 in March and Rendezvous No. 2 in 2001, returning to test the well last winter. The two wells are in the Greater Mooses Tooth unit, southwest of the Alpine oil field.

Conoco isn't planning to further delineate Pioneer or Rendezvous for now, the company said, adding that the two accumulations "will be pursued as possible satellite developments" to the Alpine field.

Conoco holds a 78 percent interest in Greater Mooses Tooth and Anadarko holds the rest.

Conoco has been the most active explorer in NPR-A over the past decade, drilling 20 wells since 1999.
