Kenai River Dipnetting 2011

A dipper works on another fish that was pulled out of the Kenai River Monday, July 18, 2011. Dipnetters caught hundreds of fish this last weekend at the Kenai.

While anglers flock in groves to the Kenai Peninsual for salmon fishing this week, Ship Creek in downtown Anchorage continues to supply large hauls.

COPPER CENTER -- Federally qualified subsistence users can start dipping their nets in the Chitina subdistrict of the Copper River June 1.

The fishery in the Upper Copper River District opens 8 p.m. that day and runs through June 7. Eight other openings are scheduled between June and October.

Participants must have a federal permit, available at the National Park Service office in Copper Center or Slana.

The Copper Center office runs a recorded message phone service on the current fishing schedule at 1-907-822-7256.
