UAA will send a program-best 10 track and field athletes to the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 21-23 at San Angelo, Texas. Senior David Kiplagat (3,000-meter steeplechase) will make his fourth straight appearance at nationals and junior long jumper David Registe, the defending national champion, will make his third appearance. Also three-peating is senior Elizabeth Chepkosgei (5,000).
Debuting at nationals are seniors Mick Boyle (800) and James Pettigrew (800), sophomores Marko Cheseto (5,000, 10,000), Demietrius Preston (long jump) and Shaun Ward (400 hurdles), and freshmen Alfred Kangogo (1,500) and Cory Pena (800).
The nine men and one woman who qualified will represent UAA in the eighth consecutive season Seawolves have competed in the NCAA Championships.
