Alaska State Troopers said Tuesday that they will be enforcing a reduced speed limit on a four-mile stretch of the Seward Highway until the end of the hooligan fishing season. A 45-mph limit, down from the regular 65 mph, will be in effect from Milepost 80 to 84 of the highway until midnight on May 31, troopers said. The reduction is in response to the increase in pedestrians and parked vehicles along the roadway that accompany the hooligan fishing season. During high tides, dipnetters pack the Turnagain Arm region.
"The stretch of highway that is of concern runs the four miles between the primary entrance point for the hooligan run at the 20 Mile River and the Peterson Creek Bridge," according to a trooper press release.
