Preliminary music begins at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony includes a color guard, rifle salute, and music by the Buglers Across America playing taps, the Air Force Band of the Pacific and the Midnight Sons Barbershop Chorus. American Legion Post 1 observance, 11 a.m., Anchorage Memorial Park cemetery; a moment of silence will be observed and a bugler will play taps. Korean War Veterans Association, Archie Van Winkle Chapter Memorial Day observance, 9:30 a.m., Delaney Park Strip, Ninth Avenue and I Street; participating are the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club, Rep. Don Young, Acting Mayor Matt Claman and representatives from the Air Force and Army; Father Norm Elliott is the main speaker. Theme is the 55th anniversary of D-Day. Names of Alaska residents and those deployed from Alaska who gave their lives in the war on terrorism will be read. Annual Memorial Day Car Show, noon-4 p.m., Sam's Club, 3651 Penland Parkway.
