Dan Neumiester has been named administrator of the Alaska Native Medical Center, announced Don Kashevaroff, CEO of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. Neumiester has been interim administrator of the 150-bed hospital for Alaska Natives and American Indians since January. Throughout his 25 years of hospital leadership, Neumeister has specialized in organizational change, physician and board development, and achieving strong operations and financial results.
ECI/Hyer Architecture and Interiors has promoted Jae Shin to principal with the firm. Shin received both a Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. Shin focuses on sustainable and energy-efficient practices related to architecture. He currently serves as a member on the West Anchorage District Plan Planning Group. His recent design experience includes the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's Kodiak Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center. Sue Brown, LSIT, has joined SurvBase. Brown will oversee GIS operations. She has provided surveying and mapping services in both the public and private sectors throughout much of Alaska. In addition to her mapping expertise, Brown is an accomplished field to finish surveyor. Brown received her BS in geomatics, with a math minor, from UAA. SurvBase is a full service geomatics solutions provider delivering appropriate surveying and mapping products for project success. Garrett Maupin, an architect with kpb architects, has been selected by the AIA Jury of Fellows as a new Fellow in the Institute. This year the honor was awarded to 112 members who have made contributions of national significance to the profession. Out of a membership of more than 86,000, there are fewer than 2,600 AIA members distinguished with the honor of fellowship. Maupin has been employed by kpb since 2005 and is currently working on the McLaughlin Youth Center expansion and a primary care center for Southcentral Foundation. Alaska Communications Systems Group Inc. recently announced the appointment of Heather Cavanaugh as director of corporate communications. Cavanaugh is the company's media spokeswoman, with responsibility for public relations and internal communications. Cavanaugh brings more than eight years of public relations and communications experience to ACS. Prior to joining ACS, Cavanaugh worked as communications director for the Anchorage Economic Development Corp. Mark Johnson has joined Chugach Electric Association as general counsel. His work will focus on regulatory and energy affairs. Johnson served as a member of the Regulatory Commission of Alaska from March 2003 through February 2009. While a commissioner, he was extensively involved in telecommunications and served as a member and state chair of the FCC's Federal-State Joint Board on Jurisdictional Separations. He holds a juris doctorate degree from the McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific.
