A 68-year-old amputee spent a night crawling along trails seeking help on the Kenai Peninsula last week after his newly purchased ATV got stuck, Alaska State Troopers said Friday.
Allen Redden had last been seen last Friday about 10 a.m. after buying a Honda three-wheeler and riding it from a business in Anchor Point. On Saturday morning, troopers in Ninilchik received a report he was missing. Troopers, with Redden's friends and a local emergency team, began searching the area. A troopers helicopter was also ordered. Searchers found Redden at about 4 p.m. about 2.5 miles off Mile 9 North Fork Road, troopers said. Troopers said he spent the night crawling for help after the ATV got stuck. He was dehydrated but seemed to be otherwise OK, troopers said. An ambulance took Redden to South Peninsula Hospital in Homer.
