AROUND THE HORN

-- Pilots survived a ninth-inning scare to beat the Goldpanners 4-2 Friday at Mulcahy Stadium.

The Panners had runners at second and third base with two outs, but outfielder Josh Coats caught Derrick Chung's fly ball.

Pitcher Logan Darnell pitched five innings for the Pilots, giving up two runs and two hits, striking out five batters to earn the win.

Ben Mount also produced five strikeouts for the Pilots.

Drew Heid led the Panners with one triple and two doubles in the first two innings.

-- Jonathan Johnson furnished two runs, two hits and one RBI to highlight the Mat-Su Miners' 7-4 victory over the Michigan Monarchs on Friday at Hermon Brothers Field.

Mat-Su starting pitcher Mike Carlson struck out two batters and walked three, and Connor Hulse added one strikeout and walked one.

-- In Kenai, the Oregon Black Sox continued their successful tour of Alaska. The Black Sox used a five-run fourth inning to beat the Peninsula Oilers 7-0 for their third win in as many days against ABL opponents. The Black Sox, who play the Oilers again today, have recorded wins over the Oilers, the Bucs and the Pilots.

-- The scoreboard is up and running at Mulcahy Stadium. After four days of playing baseball with no scoreboard to keep track of the score, inning or number of outs, it was fixed in time for Friday's game between the Pilots and Goldpanners.
