Superior Court Judge David George in Sitka made the decision Friday, setting the fishery opening in the Ketchikan and southeast Prince of Wales Island areas.
In response, attorneys for the Organized Village of Kasaan -- the tribal government for the small Haida village on east Prince of Wales Island -- worked on scheduling a hearing with Ketchikan Superior Court Judge William Carey to seek a preliminary injunction against the fishery.
The hearing was the latest of several efforts to stop the fishery, which was approved by the Alaska Board of Fisheries in January over objections by locals and the Department of Fish and Game.
