-- A big eighth inning carried the Bucs to a 9-6 victory Sunday on a day when they and the Goldpanners put on a clinic on how not to play defense. The teams combined for a dozen errors, seven by the Bucs.

The Bucs never led until they scored five times in the eighth, an outburst that had little to do with their bats. They only had two hits, one of them a bunt, but the Goldpanners had big pitching problems. With the bases loaded, Martin Medina moved from second base to the pitching mound, where he walked the next two batters to allow the Bucs to tie things 6-6. Then came a sacrifice fly for another run and two more walks for two more runs.

Bret Atwood was 3 of 5 with two runs, an RBI and a pair of stolen bases for the Bucs. Kevin Jacob struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth to pick up his second save.
