A 31-year-old woman suspected of driving drunk plowed into a South Anchorage business early Tuesday, causing serious structural damage to it and leaving her pinned under her vehicle, according to police. The woman, who was not named because she had not yet been charged with a crime, lost control of a Chevrolet Cavalier and smashed into the Alaska Structures building at 9024 Vanguard Drive about 12:30 a.m., according to police.
The vehicle flipped and partially ejected her before coming to rest on her left arm and leg, police said. No one else was in the vehicle.
Witnesses called police after hearing the building's alarm, and officials had to extricate the woman from the wreckage. She smelled of alcohol and was combative with doctors at a hospital, police said.
Officials took a blood sample to test for alcohol. The investigation is continuing.
