AROUND THE HORN

Bucs 2, Pilots 1 -- Shortstop Jason Martinson blasted a two-out solo home run in the fourth inning that proved to be the winning run as the Anchorage Bucs edged the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 2-1 late Saturday night. The seven-inning affair preceded the July 4 fireworks display at Mulcahy Stadium, drawing its typical big crowd.

Bucs starter Mark Joukoff (4-2), went 5 1/3 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four to pick up the victory. Ben Mount (0-1) was the loser for the Pilots.

Catcher Austin Barnes' home run accounted for the other Bucs run.

The Pilots won the first game of the doubleheader 9-7.

Peninsula 4, AIA 1 -- Bulky first baseman Mark Tracy's two-run double helped power the Peninsula Oilers to a three-run third inning and they went on to beat Athletes In Action 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Coral Seymour Memorial Ballpark. Starter Cody Kendall of Fresno State went six innings, striking out seven, to pick up the victory.

Tracy, who went 1 for 4 on the day, is a 6-foot-5 and 225-pounder from Duquesne University.
